Nationally renowned educators in the field of Asian American Studies have come together to put forth the possibilities for the future of Asian American civic engagement in America.
Especially important to recognize in this color-conscious election year, the report touches on issues such as the civic participation of immigrants and Asian American college students, the role of the internet in increasing Asian American civic engagement, and how civic engagement might serve as a pathway to political party identification.

LEAP feels that leaders know the issues. Establishing a critical presence in the public policy arena, LEAP created the Asian Pacific American Public Policy Institute (PPI) in 1992. LEAP's Public Policy Institute, a crucial source of up-to-date demographic information and policy analysis, has been committed to raising public awareness of the status of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). Producing 10 major policy reports on topics including economic status, immigration, and affirmative action in partnership with the Asian American Studies Center at UCLA, the Institute provides essential data on Asian Pacific communities and establishes a critical voice for AAPIs in today's policy debates.
To involve more AAPIs in public policy decision-making, the Institute also initiates community outreach efforts that accompany the release of its reports. LEAP has held roundtables in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York, Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C., gathering community leaders to discuss the policy issues impacting the national AAPI community. |
